BBQ Competition

Eliot, Maine - Jasper Wyman & Son sponsors Dessert Contest

Jasper Wyman & Son, a family owned Maine business and the largest US supplier of premium Wild Blueberry products is sponsoring the fifth  Celebrate MAINE Festival featuring the Mainely Grillin' & Chillin' State BBQ Competition held on August 7th & 8th from 9am to 7pm both Saturday and Sunday at the Raitt Homestead Farm Museum in Eliot Maine. In addition Wymans will sponsor a Wild Blueberry Dessert Contest for the competing BBQ teams.  Sanctioned by KCBS and NEBS the BBQ Competition brings teams from all over the country together to compete in four categories.

"It was a natural evolution of our involvement with the Celebrate Maine Festival to sponsor a segment during the BBQ competition as Wymans is a food company and I noticed many of the teams were from different areas of the country and it is a perfect way to expose Wymans products to them" stated Elizabeth Lane, great-granddaughter of founder Jasper Wyman.

"Adding the Wymans Wild Blueberry Dessert Contest brings another exciting element to the competition for the teams.  They are looking forward to competing with each other to produce the winning dessert," stated Tom Raitt Caretaker and Trustee of the Raitt Homestead Farm Museum. "Many of them are already practicing to create the perfect wild blueberry dessert to entice the guest judges with."

Wymans will supply the teams with the blueberry product they will use to create the dessert dish during the event weekend of August 7th & 8th. The dessert will need to have a major flavor profile of blueberries.  Creativity is encouraged and the judges will be scoring on appearance and taste.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three desserts.

The Mainely Grillin' & Chillin'  BBQ attracts competition-level BBQ teams from throughout the region and across the country.  It is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (www.kcbs.us), and the New England Barbecue Society (www.nebs.org). The Grand Champion will qualify for the Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and the American Royal Invitational in Kansas City, Missouri. Last years Mainely Grand Champion IQUE went on to win "The Jack" in Tennessee.

Continuous live entertainment will be on stage throughout the event. "We are super excited about coming back to play during the 2010 BBQ Competition" stated Tonya Shevenell from the Don Campbell Band www.doncampbellmusic.com. "We were so happy to hear that the RHFM 2009 BBQ winner went on to take the big competition in Tennessee!"
